Bowman Hal Presents Paul McCarthy in Collaboration with Hauser & Wirth

Bowman Hal presents A&E, Adolf/Adam & Eva/Eve, Drawing Sessions 2020 – 2022 with Lilith Stangenberg, an exhibition by Paul McCarthy featuring a series of drawings produced between 2020 and 2022 in collaboration with actress Lilith Stangenberg. The project emerges from a series of unscripted performative sessions in which drawing operates as a direct record of action, bodily presence, and psychological exchange.

The exhibition continues one of the central lines of inquiry in McCarthy’s practice: the examination of power structures, latent violence within Western culture, and the political dimensions of desire. In A&E, Adolf/Adam & Eva/Eve, Drawing Sessions 2020 – 2022 with Lilith Stangenberg, these tensions unfold through shifting archetypal figures—Adolf, Eva, the father, the daughter—whose identities remain unstable, overlapping history, myth, and popular culture.

The title refers simultaneously to Adolf & Eva, Adam & Eve, and Arts & Entertainment, condensing the conceptual framework of the project. The resulting drawings retain a raw, gestural quality that emphasizes process over representation, underscoring the performative origin of the works.

The exhibition will be on view from March, and is presented in collaboration with Hauser & Wirth, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing critical contemporary artistic practices.
