Bowman Hal + Almine Rech

Bowman Hal is excited to announce a collaborative partnership with Almine Rech to host an exhibition of Aaron Johnson’s work in 2025.

Aaron Johnson, born in St. Paul, Minnesota, in 1975, has built a dynamic career characterized by experimentation and evolution. His recent works embrace luminous, mystical imagery inspired by the figurative traditions of ancient Hindu temples and a profound sense of interconnectedness with nature and the spiritual. Vibrant and atmospheric, his paintings feature vaporous beings emerging through washes of color, crafted with techniques such as staining, dripping, and layering. These works, rich in both technique and narrative, speak to universal themes of transformation and the interplay between humanity and the natural world.

Johnson’s work has earned international recognition, with exhibitions at venues such as MASS MoCA and the American University Art Museum, and his pieces are held in esteemed collections including MoMA New York and the Frederick R. Weisman Foundation. In 2024, Johnson’s career reached a milestone with his first institutional solo show at La Térmica in Málaga, Spain.

The collaboration between Bowman Hal and Almine Rech aims to bring Johnson’s remarkable work to new audiences and highlights the shared commitment to promoting artistic excellence and dialogue.
