Ampparito
b. Madrid
Spain
1991Lives and works
in Madrid.Through public space interventions, murals, installations and sculpture, Ampparito (Ignacio Nevado) uses
humour and elements of surprise to present alternative perspectives on the everyday. Paper clips,
serviettes or broken bricks become the protagonists of multi-storey murals, for example, while traditional
monuments are reconfigured by the careful positioning of basketballs, inflatables or colourful tape.
Ampparito draws on the artistic traditions of appropriation and culture jamming, combined with optical
illusion and a considered use of scale. His visual puns oblige the viewer to abandon logic, embrace the
absurd and re-engage with their surroundings.
Ampparito graduated in Fine Arts from Madrid Complutense University and his public space artworks have
appeared in cities across Europe, including London, Madrid, Oslo and Barcelona. He has participated in
numerous international street art festivals including NUART (Stavanger, Norway) and the Saint-Etienne
Design Biennial (France), and his smaller-scale works form part of private collections including Digood and
Colección SOLO.

“A large part of the work I do is with things that already exist in reality. I simply decontextualize them in order to bring them more clearly into focus.”

“The idea is to take a name out of context and put it into the spotlight—a name that, as a name, makes no sense. An anti-name that is not meant to designate someone, but rather to give thanks to many people.”
